How to Tell If You Have Defective Drywall

Chinese Drywall also known as defective drywall is a ringing danger that has surrounded house since early 2001. The threat started from Florida, eventually traveled to other parts of united States and Canada. This product liability has hit and effected many house. Are you one of those?


The number of homes affected varies widely according to the information source. Estimates given range from 100,000 to 500,000 homes. What if you are one of those! Here are some of symptoms that can help you find out if you too are affected with defective drywall or not.
  1. The sulfurous smell will be prevalent.
  2. Any metal in contact with the drywall will be corroded, especially copper. Any wiring will be corroded as well. Corrosion will be black in color.
  3. Appliances and electronics will start to fail with no explanation.
  4. If the drywall is newer than 2001, it has a strong possibility of being toxic drywall from China.
  5. Close examination of the drywall may find Chinese lettering or markings.
  6. A Chinese drywall inspection will find evidence to support the claim.

  1. Have you ever come across a home with chinese drywalls/gypsum where the walls/ceilings become like dusted with black ash? and it's not mold! home built 2005-6 ? Not drywalls but the concrete walls were covered from within with a thick layer of gypsum.. family got extremely ill. Thank you
